Paint Tuscany with Michael Chesley Johnson
June 16th – 23rd 2018

Join Master Artist Michael Chesley Johnson for a relaxing, fun-filled week of exploring the Tuscan countryside with sketching materials in hand.

You’ll visit ancient villages, artisan shops, wineries and markets, and delight in the unique experience of staying at Fattoria Bacio, a winery estate, at the start of a beautiful Tuscan summer. Michael's teaching will inspire you to dive in and explore these locations in the medium of your choice – and have fun doing it!

Each day, he'll share his secrets of landscape painting. You’ll learn to capture the essence of Tuscany quickly without sacrificing mood or magic. Michael's enthusiastic and encouraging teaching style will bring out the best in you.

Taking a sketching kit of your favorite medium will enrich your travel experience by allowing you to slow down and really see all the things that make Italy special – the art and architecture, the scenery, the food and wine, and the people. This is a different way of traveling, one where you connect on a deeper level with the place you visit, and it becomes a part of you forever.

The ultimate goal of this workshop is to soak up the spirit of Tuscany while creating lasting memories of painting, learning, exploring, making new friends, and enjoying great food and wine in an incredible location.

One of the country's top plein air painters, Michael works in oil and pastel in the American Southwest, coastal Maine and the Canadian Maritimes. He has been an invited artist to many national plein air painting events over the years and has competed in challenging locations such as the Grand Canyon.

Elected a Master Pastellist by Pastel Artists Canada in 2008, Michael is a Signature Member of the American Impressionist Society and the Pastel Society of America. He is the author of Backpacker Painting: Outdoors with Oil & Pastel and Outdoor Study to Studio: Take Your Plein Air Paintings to the Next Level. A long-time contributor to The Pastel Journal and Contributing Editor for The Artist's Magazine, he divides his year between the Canadian Maritimes and the American Southwest.
